I’m a countdown-er. Yes, that is officially a word now because, well, I am one. I love watching the numbers disappear, growing smaller and smaller until Christmas, a birthday, or some fun trip arrives. I’ve got a few countdowns going for this summer and it brings me so much joy to see that they are fast approaching! However, I have to be very careful not to wish away the days and miss the now in favor of what’s ahead.
While I wish we had a cute little countdown app for the unknowns in life, there’s something to be said about standing in the in-between with feet rooted in faith, eyes on the sky instead of on our calendars. With hearts tilted upward toward the heavens, we are in a far better position to receive vision from the Lord to keep pressing onward toward His goals for our lives.
I recently came across the following verses, and they encouraged the socks off my heart! Or, you know, they would if my heart had socks ;)
“Even now He will rouse Himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state. Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.” Job 8:6-7
It reminded me of another verse in Zecheriah 4 which says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” (v 10). In the waiting space, I encourage you to keep those eyes up on the sky and ask the Lord what work He wants to do in your heart and life NOW even though that thing, whatever it may be, may still be far off.
Let’s take small steps in faith and of obedience toward Him today and trust Him with tomorrow. He is always, always worth it.
