Hey, friends!
One of my favorite things to do has always been to just sit with a pen and paper and doodle my heart out while listening to a favorite album or playlist. I used to do this all of the time (in my pre-motherhood life), and whenever I get a chance to do it now I always wonder to myself, why don’t I make time for this more often!?
I’m happy to say I made time for it recently, and it was so refreshing! What’s great about this too is that all you really need is what I mentioned above — a pen, paper, and some good tunes. So when Illustrated Faith released their Praise Book I knew right away what I’d use mine for: worship doodles!
My husband and I are big Leeland fans, so I put all of their albums on shuffle for this “session.” Then I grabbed my Praise Book, a pencil and eraser, put my earbuds in, and had at it!
The lyrics in every Leeland song speak to me on such a deep level. When my husband and I became Christians, Leeland’s music had a very big part in it, and they were (and still are) huge inspirations to us musically. So listening to their music while I made some worship doodles felt so natural, and so good.
After I filled two full pages with my pencil, and thought everything fit about right, I used my Illustrated Faith pens over the pencil, then erased my pencil lines. It’s important that I always flip my perfectionism switch into the OFF position for things like this, because if I dwell too much on one word or letter position, I get distracted from the music and miss the point.
Once the black pen was down, I decided to add some color to match the splatter on the Praise Books’s transparent page. On the transparent page itself I added some alpha stickers to document the session, and then I was done! Easy, fun, and really fulfilling!
Another great thing about worship doodling is that it’s something that can very easily be done on-the-go! As I mentioned in my last post, my family and I are on a trip and will be in the States for almost the whole month of July. While I’m planning on relaxing, and hopefully will have some down-time, I don’t expect to have many opportunities to do a lot of art or bible journaling — at least not with a ton of supplies. So all I’ve brought with me are some blank journals in my traveler’s notebook, (a lot of) pens, my single column journaling bible, and very few add-ons (a few stickers and stamps). Worship doodling will be such an easy way to have some quiet time in the Word while I’m away, with minimal supplies!
So friends, I encourage you to give this a try if you haven’t already! Like I said, it’s one of my favorite things, and I intend to start making time for these little worship sessions much more often.
Have a happy Sunday!
