I’ll bet most of the women reading this right now have at least 5 bobbi pins floating around in the bottom of their purse. There’s seriously some kind of portal that those little pins go through that make them show up everywhere we DON’T need them & make them disappear from everywhere we DO need them. Am I right!? #thestruggleisreal . My husband has asked me why they show up all over the house & I’m like “You never know when you’re going to need a bobbi pin!” I’ve been known to use them for several things in a pinch: a paper clip, to keep a button on, a bookmark, to roll down a tube of toothpaste, etc. Oh– & they keep your hair together. Bobbi pins have rescued me from several situations before, because struggles happen. But I’d hardly call a button falling off a major struggle. What about REAL struggles? Financial jams, marital problems, health issues, safety concerns… I doubt a bobbi pin would really keep you together in the midst of a crisis like that. But God will.
Many of today’s struggles involve temptation. I’ve personally encountered plenty in my day-to-day life in my recent past. I was diagnosed with diabetes just a couple of months ago, & changing to a new diet has been my daily struggle. It may not seem like a serious crisis having to resist eating a piece of birthday cake or drinking a glass of lemonade, but when it affects your blood sugar– it can be very serious! Having to resist the temptation to break my new lifestyle & munch on some Sour Patch Kids is a struggle that I face all too often. But when I started this journey, God looked ahead & knew that I could do it. Because of Him holding me together, I have gotten pretty used to my new lifestyle & have been able to stay VERY true to my diet! Because of Him, my health is improving, my blood sugar is in really good shape, & the struggle isn’t as difficult as it might be otherwise. Because of Him, I’m alive.
1 Corinthians 10:13 talks about how God looks ahead of us & our struggles so He doesn’t give us more than we can handle.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will provide a way out so you can endure it.” (NIV)
How encouraging is that to know!? No matter what situation or struggle you encounter, He has already looked ahead, mapped out the way, & given you exactly what you can handle. Everything in front of you is doable. What a relief! He doesn’t promise it to be easy or simple, but He does promise it to be doable. Whenever we’re feeling pressured, tempted, or in a struggle, we can refer to 1 Corinthians 10:13 & call on God to hold us together.
My suggestion is to mark that page in your Bible for quick reference. Don’t have a bookmark? Might I recommend grabbing a bobbi pin? ;)
