Sketchbook Scriptures: Matthew 11:28

Description
This month, I was camping in just one verse. Oh but it’s a good one, friends. Matthew 11:28 was a balm for me. I come to this season feeling exhausted and overwhelmed from trying to keep up with all of the balls I have in the air. And I am seeking rest. I sat out in my yard and made loose drawings of my flowers and thought on the subject of rest.
Our souls only find rest in hope. That is what I am frantically looking for when I say I am overwhelmed or burdened or restless. Hope. I am looking for hope. The world is constantly offering me products and plans and people that tell me they will give me what I am looking for. But they offer false hope. My soul will not find true rest in these. Eventually I find counterfeit hope that lets me down. So many things provide temporary distraction and just mask my restlessness. My load is not truly light, because only Jesus is true hope. When I believe in Him – taking up His yoke – I am letting Jesus take up my burden. And when He shoulders my burden, I find hope. Hope both here in the present and hope for the future.
