More Jesus Bible Journaling Kit

“Hello, dear heart. When I was young and still not anchored by Jesus but longing for closeness with Him as children do, I felt the importance of establishing a kind of Lenten practice or discipline as Resurrection Day approached. I wanted to demonstrate what looked like mature faith to young eyes. I wanted to practice the discipline of letting something go that I saw modeled my entire life. Give something up for Lent…for God. But when I tried this, it just felt a little superficial, a little rote. My heart was yearning to draw near to Jesus but I didn’t feel like it was working. I remember talking with my mother about this. She encouraged me to consider ADDing something instead of subtracting something during this season. What if it was MORE, not LESS? AND, not OR? And that resonated in my Spirit immediately. I have always been an “AND” girl. OR has always felt too binary, too black and white, and it didn’t make sense for my young heart and mind who *always* saw the gray in everything.  I have never been good at “OR”. I want to taste all the yummy entrees, visit all the exhibits at a museum, see all the animals at the zoo, including all the songs on a playlist. I am terrible at self-editing because I want to touch upon all the nuances and all the feelings. I want to acknowledge all the possibilities. Concise is not a Sara thing. I am flowery and thorough and detailed.  So this practice of ADDing instead of abstaining was just what I needed. Adding: MORE time in the Word. MORE prayer. MORE praise. MORE gratitude. MORE of all the things that would bring me closer to Him. This makes sense to me. When we draw nearer to Him and fill our hearts with MORE of Him, we find ourselves drawn to be MORE kind, MORE humble, MORE gentle. And then, we find MORE hope, MORE joy, MORE faith, MORE peace. This approach has become an avenue for me to find MORE Jesus. I return to it often. In lenten seasons yes, but also in everyday seasons, in dark and difficult and dry seasons, in sunny and thriving and fertile seasons. And it feels especially important now, in this season of collective grief and prolonged uncertainty and weariness.I am blessed and honored to share what God has placed on my heart with you this month. Through heart songs and intentions, together we will weave MORE Jesus into the tapestry of our stories so that His colors become the brightest. We will look closer so we see Him more clearly. We will listen closely so that His voice becomes the loudest.”
