“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act.” Psalm 37:3-5 (ESV)
Befriend faithfulness. This makes my chest tickle a little. It sends my mind into all kinds of scenarios and visuals. I want to be a friend to faithfulness! Some versions say “feed on faithfulness.” That’s something I can sink my teeth into. (See what I did there??) I’d like to be found starving my insecurities and doubts, by feeding my deepest heartfelt desires with the faithfulness of God. When I dwell on His steadfast nature I am able to quiet the questions and cling to hope. I can stop trying so hard and rest in who He is. I can wait. That’s the thing, isn’t it? The waiting? It’s like stagnant water that breeds all kinds of unhealthy thoughts. The waiting has a tendency to drive me into the depths of forgetfulness where God’s heart is harder to see, His plans are harder to fathom. It’s easy to forget, but don’t do it, friends. Let’s be found keeping the faithfulness of God in front of us, and let’s be found delighting in Him. Let’s be found trading striving for waiting. Quiet waiting. Hopeful waiting. Faithful waiting. He will do what He said He would do.
