Did you ever build a blanket fort as a kid? I have many memories of epic forts built with my siblings when I was little. We would move furniture around and tie blankets from the backs of chairs and strech them across the room. Our forts would take over our family room on rainy or snowy days and we would create a new little world underneath the shelter of our blankets. In this cozy universe we were safe from the icky weather and free from time–everything is just a hazy shade of dim in a blanket fort! Our little forts became a hiding place–a refuge–and a place for our imaginations to run wild and our hearts to be carefree.

“I take refuge in you. I’ll seek refuge in the the shadow of your wings until danger passes…I call to God Most High, to God who fulfuills his purpose for me. He reaches down from heaven and saves me…God sends his faithful love and truth…Your faithful love is as high as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches the clouds.” (Psalm 57)

Now will you join me today? Take a moment to stop and breathe. Rest from this busy world and weary life. Take refuge in the hiding place where love and faithfulness abounds.
