mixed media Bible art journaling tutorial by Heather Greenwood | masking arrows | watercolors and acrylic paint | More of God and less of me

“Arrows pointing up to God,” was the first thing I thought of when I read the “Less Is More” devotional from Goals with Grace. I just knew I wanted to have lots of arrows pointing up to God to remind me that I want to focus more on Him and less on me. I want to spend more time with Him and less time on selfish things. I remembered the arrow stickers from the Genesis Collection and decided it would be fun to use them as a mask in today’s tutorial.

STEP ONE: I used a wide washi tape to mask off the edge of the scripture.

STEP TWO: Using the watercolors and a waterbrush I added blobs of color to cover the whole margin

STEP THREE: Once the watercolor was dry I added arrow stickers on top. I clipped and altered some of the arrows for variety and to fit in some of the smaller openings.

STEP FOUR: I then painted white acrylic paint over the top covering it all up.

STEP FIVE: Once the paint is dry, carefully peel off the stickers and washi tape. Go very slow to prevent ripping your page or pulling up some of the paint. I did peel off a little of the paint and to fix that I used a white gel pen.

STEP SIX: Using a pen, I outlined the arrows and then added stickers and paper pieces to finish off the statement. I also added some washi tape and a date stamp to finish it off.
