Hi friends, how is your Advent month going? I have to admit that we’ve been super busy with activities that I haven’t really had time to really focus on Advent other than Sunday morning services. I’m looking forward to spending some more time in my Bible in the next couple weeks as parties slow down and I can introvert in my cozy little home. I’m so ready to dive in after doing a month of gratitude last month. I already feel out of sorts not painting in my Bible every day. I have been at least reading scripture and devotionals. My church sends out a devotional every day relating to the coming week’s message so at least I’m not out of that practice of reading my Bible.
Since it’s been super busy around here, I wanted to show something really simple and easy and fast that you can do. I love the Christmas tree with the crosses in the Advent stamp set and knew I wanted to paint a forest in my margin. First, I grabbed my stash of Advent ephemera paper pieces… I love how they have scripture on the back of them. Since I wanted to do a forest of stamped trees, I grabbed a tree ephemera piece and looked at the back… PERFECT. This was some of the scripture we studied on Sunday, so I was excited to document it.
Here are some notes/PSAs I want to share with you before we get started… First, because it’s not totally solid you want to use a very thin layer, but not too thin that the paint dries and you don’t get a clean stamped image. You also don’t want to go too thick and end up filling the crosses with paint. Second, you must wash your stamp as soon as possible so that you don’t get dried up paint in the crosses… because that will build up over time and then your stamp won’t stamp cleanly. Third, I think of mixed media as imperfect, so go with the flow and don’t expect a perfectly clean stamped image.
STEP ONE:
Let’s do a little finger painting… using a small dab of paint, lightly rub it over the stamp. With less pressure from your finger, you will avoid getting the paint in the crosses or design of the stamp.
STEP TWO:
Stamp the image onto your Bible page… do not put a ton of pressure when stamping down, just a light kiss will do. If you push down too hard and you have paint in the crosses, the crosses won’t be clean.
STEP THREE:
Continue stamping until you have your forest of trees.
STEP FOUR:
add your title, ephemera, tab, date stamp, journaling, etc…
