Mixed Media Bible Journaling Tutorial | Painterly Layering

One of my favorite things to do is add layer after layer after layer of acrylic paint until I feel like I’m finished… and then I like to add more.

Who else is absolutely loving the Free to Flourish devotional. I swear Bekah is having a heart to heart with me every day and I’m loving each day. Believe it or not, painting is one of my insecurities. I’m always worried about what others will think every time I post a photo of my Bible Journaling, and this lesson really reminded me that the reason I Bible journal is for my roots to grow deeper.

I wanted to share one of my favorite tutorials with you especially since I just love the outline floral stamps in the kit, they are just so perfect for this technique. Are you ready to have some fun painting, stamping and then layering some more paint?

STEP ONE:

using the paint cards scrap on the colors you want in the background of your stamp… I wanted pink and yellow flowers and scraped on those colors along with white.

STEP TWO:

stamp the outline stamps around your page

STEP THREE:

using a contrasting background color start painting around the stamped images

Keep going with the layers… once I added some different shades of green, I would top those layers with white and then blue. One fun outcome is when the bottom layers are still a little wet and they start to blend together to make lots of different textures. I like to pounce some colors and crosshatch other colors and just play around until you like the outcome.

After I’m happy with the background then I will add stickers and journaling to finish off the entry.
