Greetings Illustrated Faith Tribe –
How many times do you feel like everything around you is spinning? Crazy? Emotional? Shaking and threatening to take you down to the ground?
I have had a few days like that lately. But here’s what God pointed me to –
Psalm 46:1-3,10-11
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
I love verses 8-10 in the Message.
…Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God…
STEP OUT of the TRAFFIC
That just gets me right in the middle of my spinning emotions.
I need to say, “Yes Lord” – step out of the traffic – and be still.
I need to remember who the Lord is and I am His and let His calming Spirit wash over my weary body.
Oh, how I love Him.
No matter what shakes, He is stable. No matter the spinning storm, He is our Refuge. No matter the mess of traffic, He is our Strength and Counsel.
Let’s journal truth friends.
Gathering Supplies:
Inspirational 12 x 12 Illustrated Faith All People All Nations – Hope, United, and Hand in Hand (shown in later pictures)
Gelatos – Metallic Mint, Metallic Melon, Tangerine, Butterscotch, Blueberry
Water and a springy #8 round watercolor brush
Illustrated Faith All People All Nations – Washi Tape
Illustrated Faith Bible mat (not pictured)
My intention is to have some fun playing with mixed media and to portray the crazy, mixed up shaking that seems to be all around me with pattern and color.
I started by laying down washi tape. I am using the Bible mat to help me. By going off the edges of the Bible page, I will have an easy place to peel my washi tape away when I am ready.
Scribbles of Metallic Mint Gelato.
Scribbles of Blueberry Gelato.
I lightly washed water over the blues so I could see what the colors were going to do before adding more.
Adding Butterscotch Gelato.
After a light wash with water over the Butterscotch. I brought in my craft heat tool to dry the Gelatos and to begin to loosen the adhesive on the washi tape.
Then, VERY carefully I started to peel back the tape.
It’s helpful to hold the place you are peeling from down to avoid tears – especially at the edges.
All the tape is off. Time to add the next layer of color and texture. Swirls with my Tangerine gelato.
Hash marks with Metallic Melon.
Light touch of water.
A quick dry with the heat tool.
I love marks and color. Mixed media is SO fun.
I think one of my FAVORITE new Illustrated Faith Basics is the Brushed Words clear stickers by Katygirl Designs.
I need Jesus to take control. I added the sticker “Jesus take control” – smoothing down clear stickers is easy with paint cards.
Adding my own words with mixed alphas. He is my Refuge and Strength – oh how I need Him.
I used some of the Illustrated Faith All People All Nations Say It Loud stickers to add more layers.
Trimming the edges.
More layers above Refuge, adding a tab, and a orange “x” from the Illustrated Faith All Nations All People die cut pack.
Adding a black Illustrated Faith Hexie.
In the middle of the chaos, Jesus is our Refuge and Strength.
Date stamp.
Homespun Alpha numbers for the date.
Underlining scripture.
Praise Him! I can be still and know. He is all I need.
Let’s all “step out of the traffic” and set our gaze on the truth of who God is – He is always stable, always ready to gather us in, and always our Refuge and Strength.
