Mixed Media Bible Journaling by Heather Greenwood | using the CHRISTmas Collection | Scrapbook Paper Layering Process and stamping

Hi friends, I’m having such a fun time observing advent while playing with the CHRISTmas Collection. While studying “prepare” for advent this week, I was thinking about all the things we do to prepare for the Christmas season like decorating the Christmas tree. My church’s family Advent-ure packet had us looking at Luke 2 this week. Can you imagine being Mary and told you were going to carry the Son of God? I love how she was just like “Wow God!” I pray that in the craziness of the season and our preparation for celebrating Christmas, we also prepare our hearts to remember the reason He came down off His throne in Heaven, and say “WOW GOD, thank you for loving us so much you came down as a baby to take our place on the cross!”

So, I pulled out my paper punches and scissors to create some ornaments. I thought today I’ll just walk you through the process of creating this page. Originally I thought I would just hang the ornaments on the page but I felt like it was missing the tree… a symbol of what was used to make the manger that held our Savior, and the cross that He was nailed to.

STEP ONE:

freehand dry brush some wispy strokes to create a Christmas tree. You can play with different shade of green or just play with lighter and heavier strokes to show some depth.

STEP TWO:

freehand cut or use a paper punch to create some ornaments. I freehand cut some circles from the CHRISTmas Clear Cuts. I punched some hexagon ornaments from the 12×12 scrapbook paper collection and the tip-ins paper pad. I decided I wanted some smaller “ornaments” so I freehand cut some of the hexagons down to a smaller size. I then placed them around and used some of the scraps in the bottom corner of the page as a reminder to not get caught up in the busyness of the season. I used a tape runner to adhere them to the page.

STEP THREE:

to make the ornament tops, I cut little pieces of the washi strips and taped them up on the top of each ornament.

STEP FOUR:

next I layered on the stickers making sure to add Mary and Joseph since they are a part of the scripture I was meditating on.

STEP FIVE:

next I found all the star stamps in the stamp sets. I stamped little stars all over the tree to fill it up with decoration.

STEP SIX:

lastly, I added a title, journaling, a date stamp, a tab at the top and outlined the passage I was studying.
