Memory Keeping: Faith Edition | Psalm 91:4

Hello sweet friends and welcome back to Memory Keeping: Faith Edition! This is a series where we document our faith with a memory keeping spin. I have loved getting my faith stories down this way and I hope you’ve enjoyed it too!

This week on the blog, the team is focusing on the Seeds of Faith collection and it got me thinking about going back and telling stories about how my faith started. I began thinking about who planted my seeds of faith and what memories I could document.

There was a time when being a 5 year old was full of innocence and pure trust in authority. For me that trust was all on my mom. She was the smartest, bravest, prettiest and craftiest lady of all ladies on earth. And she had a ton of pressure and responsibilities that I had no idea about. All I knew was that she loved me and took care of me.

One summer evening as we were heading to bed and she was shutting down the house for the night, she opened the sliding glass door and closed the screen door, not locking it or anything. Concerned, I asked her why she was leaving it open. “What if someone comes in?” (Remember back when we felt safe leaving our doors unlocked?)
Her answer was simple and confident: “God won’t let anything happen to us.”

Oh, well of course. Of course He wouldn’t. And I slept great that night, I’m sure.

We didn’t attend church or talk about God a lot when I was that little. But that tiny nugget of her passing her faith to me was incredibly significant.

She walked and talked a pure trust in God. And since she was the smarts lady of all ladies, of course I believed her!

In Psalm 91:4 it says “he will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge;” and I believe that is exactly what He did that night – and every night since. He is our protection and our refuge and our peace.

The seeds of faith that make up our lives are important and I am incredibly thankful we have this platform to record and document not only our daily walk as we are living it – but also those stories that got us here. I hope you’ll join me in recalling them and getting them told!
