“I love you, Papi.”
“I love you more, kid.”
“I know, Daddy.”
This is how my phone conversations always end with my Dad. I don’t even try to disagree with him because I know it’s not even remotely possible that I could love him more than he loves me. He makes sure to tell me how much he loves me – even though I’m now 37. He always has made that a priority and I have never once doubted it.
But I didn’t always understand how. As a kid, he was everything to me – still is! I loved him so much and never could understand how great his love could be for me. Couldn’t even imagine.
Changes happen and when I had kids of my own I finally understood. That kind of love is so deep and pure that it’s hard to put into words. “I love you more” seems like the only thing that works.
And as my faith grows, I can’t help but think about this love from God’s perspective. I love these little people but I could never love them as much as God Does.
Ephesians 2:4 says But God, being rich in mercy because of the great love with which He loved us.
It’s like a whole big circle of love where the parent loves their child more than the child can love a parent. And God our Father will always love his children more than we could ever love Him.
If we all talked to God the way we talk to our parents, I wonder if the conversation would be similar.
“I love you, God.”
“I love you more, kid.”
“I know.”
Everlasting love. That’s a serious commitment that I am grateful to have from God and for my children.
Until next time my friends,
Andrea xo
