For the first year and a half of our marriage, my husband and I worked together and saw each other throughout most of the day. Then he got a job with an hour and a half commute each way, which means a whole lot less time together and a lot of really early mornings for him! It may seem silly, but I love the little ways I get to serve him while he works hard like packing his lunch the night before. I often leave pictures of me and our daughter, notes of encouragement, and sometimes even sneak in his favorite treats. This week, I set out to make some verse cards to leave in his lunch box.

I started with sample paint cards – which are actually one of my favorite journaling supplies – and layered them up with all kinds of fun and encouraging pieces. I picked out a few verses, and then one main theme from each verse to highlight on the front of the card with the homespun alpha stickers. I wanted to choose verses that would encourage him at work or on difficult days. I made four cards this week using 1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Peter 5:6-7, 2 Corinthians 12:8-10, and Philippians 4:11-13.

I’ve always been a bit hesitant to scrapbook like this – layering all kinds of pieces on top of each other – but I see so many of the other girls do it so beautifully! I decided to give it a try, and I actually love how they turned out! I tried to keep the pieces on each card cohesive in the idea and color schemes so that it all matched. It’s kind of fun once you get going because there really are no limits!

On the back of the cards, I painted a black layer to cover up the text and used a white gel pen to write out the verse. I also went back later and laminated them so they will survive days hanging out in the lunchbox. I’m thinking about punching a hole in them and putting them on a ring. Then I can add more verses later on and my husband can keep them in his lunch box!

As wives and moms, we have such an important role to pray for and encourage our families. My husband is my best friend and my favorite person, so it’s easily one of my favorite things to be able to stand behind him and encourage him in any way possible. We have so much sway in our families and I have found that encouraging and praying for my husband not encourages him, but it is constantly making my heart grown even fonder of him!

What are the best ways you have found to encourage your kids or husband before you send them off for the day?

This is a great idea. I’ve been wanting to make salt leaks, which are little art works for random people and now you’ve added what else I can do in both technique and persons. Now to ask my partner if he’d lIke one.

These are so cute and thoughtful! I get up at 4am every weekday to make my husbands lunch and I frequently throw in project life cards that I write little notes on. I never thought to use paint sample cards! Gives me an idea to use the color sample card we used to paint his reading room with. Thanks for the idea!
