Rock and Roll Stamping step by step tutorial to achieve a ombre effect with your stamps by Heather Greenwood

It’s been so fun seeing in my Instagram feed all the listing you’re doing with the Illustrated Faith Lists by Faith kit this month. I’ve had a “late” start but I’m super excited to be working through the prompts and really diving deeper into my faith.

For the first prompt I really want to showcase the word “love” from the stamp set… because HIS LOVE is really what He is all about and what I love most about my Savior. One of my favorite techniques with stamping is “rock & roll” stamping. It works best with pigment ink and I’m so excited that the kits come with pigment ink. I took step by step pictures because I wanted to share this fun technique with you.

Supplies:

  1. stamp (I’m using the stamp set from the Lists by Faith kit)
  2. acrylic block
  3. two (different colors) pigment ink pads
  4. paper (I’m using the devotional, but you can do this in your Bible or other journals etc…)

STEP ONE:

position your stamp on the acrylic block

STEP TWO:

dab stamp ink on one side of the stamp going past halfway

STEP THREE:

This is hard to show in pictures, but here is where the rock and rolling happens…

You will take the edge of the second color to the opposite edge of the stamp… instead of dabbing you’re going to rock and roll the ink pad in towards the already inked area and slightly into the already inked area. The rolling helps to mix the color in the center rather than dabbing it off if you were to dap the ink pad.

STEP FOUR:

stamp onto paper and repeat as many times as you want… each impression will look totally different as you practice and play with rocking and rolling the second color on… some will be more defined, and some will be blended more and less defined.

NOTE: to clean off the stamp pad just press the pad into a scratch piece of paper until the other color is gone

Have fun with it and I can’t wait to see you try out this fun little technique with your stamps and inks.
