Listening to worship music while I paint is my favorite. Sometimes the lyrics resonate so deeply that I feel the need to plaster them all over my life in the form of journaling, and canvases, and post its. Currently, I’m listening to Housefires on repeat, and I’m blown away by the timeliness of their cover of Bread & Wine’s “Mountain to Valley.” Do yourself a favor and youtube it this instant. I’ll spare you the details of how it literally describes my life right now, and just assume that it will carry enormous weight for you too. What I can’t get over, the thing that has me running through the scriptures and throwing my hands up in abandon is this idea that we cannot hide from God’s presence.
Jeremiah 23:23 & 24 says “Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.”
I guess what’s really beautiful about the pondering of this thought isn’t so much the one hiding, but the Seeker. I’m not taken by the desire to hide myself from a God that sees all and cares about every detail. I am head over heels in love with Him for chasing after me so hard. Even more, I love that His presence is so thick that it is always covering me. When my line of sight is blurred. When my heart is achy over misunderstandings and broken expectations. When I’m elated and when I’m distraught. His presence covers it all. I can’t outrun it, I can’t overwhelm it, and I can’t exhaust it. I can’t exhaust Him.
