I make no secret about my love for butterflies. This past year since starting to journal in my Bible, I’ve gone through major transformations. I’ve made a lot of changes in my life that have brought me closer to God. It reminds me of the saying, “Without Change There Would Be No Butterflies.”
We had caterpillars a few months ago for homeschooling and it was so amazing to see the transformation happening. It reminded me of Romans 12:1-2.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. -Romans 12:1-2 ESV
I’ve not only gone through a major heath/physical transformation, but journaling in my Bible has transformed me spiritually too. I’ve never been so close to God or really understood what it really looked like to be in a real relationship with God until I started painting in my Bible. It’s “renewed my mind” and helped me to “discern the will of God” like nothing has ever been able to before.
When I saw the butterfly paper in the Whatever Is Lovely Collection, I just knew it was time for me to journal that scripture. I started out by fussy cutting out a bunch of the butterflies. This was a nice little project to do during quiet time.
Then I took some paint daubers and colored the edge of the page. I took one of the journal cards and added alpha stickers to say “be transformed”. I took a dot runner across the backs of the butterflies and adhered them to the background.
I didn’t want to cover up the scripture with my little card, so I adhered the card with washi tape, just at the top. I tucked the bottom behind one of the butterfly wings so that I can flip it up if needed and tuck it back in.
To finish, I added the tab with the “changed” word strip to the top, and wrote “without change there would be no butterflies” on the card, and doodled around all the stickers and butterflies. I then stamped the crosses around the page to fill in the spaces a little more.
