I’m so excited to share with you a fun little tutorial for those who have a Silhouette cutting machine and a PixScan mat. I have to admit that I’ve had one of these mats for probably a year now and only recently decided to give it a try to cut out the super cute Illustrated Faith printables.

I’m so excited about the new printables for advent and usually I just use a paper trimmer to trim them… but then hand cut the other ones. So, after trimming all the straight edged pieces, I had several little pieces that still needed to be cut. So I laid them all out on the mat inside the box.

My scanner on my printer isn’t large enough for scanning in the image for cutting, so I calibrated the software for my iPhone photos. You can find several YouTube videos on how to scan if you have a larger scanner, or for calibrating your software for your smart phone to import a file. I took a photo of the PixScan mat with all the goodies on it. Then transferred the photo to my computer via Dropbox.

You want to make sure that your phone is selected in the calibration part of the menu before you import the file.

Once I imported the file, I first created a 1″ circle using the ellipses tool. After creating one, I right-clicked and duplicated the circle 2 more times for the other two circles on my mat.

Then I spent time tracing each of the pieces and then setting it to outline each of them. This ended up taking longer than I thought it would… I probably could have hand cut them out faster, but it was still fun to learn how to do. I had to duplicate one of the tabs because it had a hard time finding the edge of the other one… the cream was too close in color to the white background… it ended up being easier to just duplicate the other one and slide it over the top of the plaid one.

Once I had all my cut lines done, I loaded the mat into my Silhouette and set them to cut. It is fun to have all those little die cuts now in my little bowl to grab when needed.

I even used them in my Naptime Diaries Make Room Advent devotional book. It was perfect for today’s devotional about having a messy house. That little “make room” house was just perfect for journaling about needing to find rest and just be with Jesus during this season.
