Anyone else stuffed to the brim with good food and fun memories from Thanksgiving yesterday? I know I am! And I’m so excited to finish out the month of Gratitude Documented even after the holiday has come to an end. Gratitude is a year-round lifestyle not a late November trend, amen!?
Today is Day 24: PRAYER. As often as we pray or talk about prayer or ask for prayer, have we ever taken time to be thankful for prayer? It is at the core of intimacy and relationship with God, a sweet gift of communication with the Creator of the universe. I am OH so thankful for it and for everything that it means and brings!
Psalm 88:1-2 says,
“Lord, you are the God who saves me;
day and night I cry out to you.
May my prayer come before You
turn your ear to my cry!”
How comforting is it to know that our prayers are lifted into His presence and that He hears the cries of our hearts? At times our feelings can deceive us to thinking that we whisper and journal our desires, needs, and praises into a void, but those things are untrue. He hears, He is near, and He even inclines His ear to hear us and draw us close.
Prayer also does not have to be complicated, which is something I am oh so grateful for. When I’m at a loss for what and how to pray –when my heart can’t find the words– we are lucky enough to have the Bible to reveal to us more about prayer and how to pray it.
Here is a list our college pastor shared with us last week about where to turn when we’re seeking more of God’s truth and instruction for prayer:
- Ephesians 6:18
- Isaiah 38:1-6
- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
- Matthew 26:39-41
- Matthew 6:5-6
- Colossians 4:3
- 1 Peter 3:12
- James 1:5-6
- Romans 8:26
- Philippians 4:6-7
- 1 John 5:15-16
- Luke 18: 1-8
- James 5:15-16
And this is less than 1% of the scriptures about prayer in the Bible! How cool is that?!
In your prayers today, friends, thank Him for the gift of prayer. Thank Him that we get to speak to Him and hear from Him and that it is His desire to meet with us. It’s a game changer.
