Let’s talk seasons. Did you visit a Michael’s or Hobby Lobby this past summer? They started putting their Christmas decor out in…JULY. July!? Who else feels like that’s jumping the gun a bit? *raises hand* Every time I see this type of thing happening, it makes me a little sad. The world rushes the seasons so much these days. Observing this rush always reminds me to savor the season. Appreciate the one we’re in! Even though the weather is getting uncomfortably cold here in Indiana & the snow will pummel us soon, I try to appreciate the season. Before we know it, it will be July again & it will be 98 degrees in the shade with us wishing it were November. Savor the season. We can’t let others influence how we’re living the season we’re in right now. I can’t let retailers push me into skipping over Christmas & New Year’s just because they decided it’s time to market for Valentine’s Day.

We encounter seasons of life as well. There are things that might feel uncomfortable right now. Certain circumstances we wish were different. Occurrences we desperately want to change. But God has you HERE. In Acts 1:7-8, we find Jesus gathered with the Apostles after His resurrection. The Apostles have so many questions for Him about how & when He plans to restore the kingdom to Israel. They want answers & directions on how long they’ll be waiting for a change in their season. Jesus answers with a reply packed with wisdom as usual:

“It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth,” (ESV).

Just as He said, it’s not for us to decide when change will come or when the winds will shift. The time we’re in now is just as important. Listening to what God has for you in this season will serve you for the next one. I used the space on this page in Acts to evaluate what season of life I’m in right now. I’m transitioning into a new daily routine & making our new house into a home. This season feels like one where He’s asking me to reevaluate my priorities after a time of distraction & refocus my heart back to Him. I’m in a season of devotion.

I encourage you to savor your season. Wring out all the bits of joy both big & small. Make a list of what this time in your life looks like. Dig deep & discover what He has for you right now, even though it may be uncomfortable. Invite Him into your heart on a daily basis so that you aren’t rushing through an important season in your life!
