Happy Wednesday! Hope your weeks are going wonderful so far! I’m jumping on the Illustrated Faith blog today to bring you a fun Midori/Fauxdori insert that can be used in lots of different ways. I’ve chosen to use mine as a praise and prayer journal.
STEP 1
First, you’ll need to gather your supplies. I’ve included a list of the basic supplies I used but you can really use almost anything to personalize your insert.
*Illustrated Faith Genesis Kit
*6-8 sheets of your favorite 12×12 scrapbook paper. You can use a mix of single and double sided sheets if you’d like (I used sheets from Illustrated Faith Whatever is Lovely collection by Bella Blvd and Shimelle’s True Story Collection)
*Something to cut your paper. I used an old rotary cutter and a flat edge ruler but a paper trimmer would be so much easier.
*Bone Folder
*Sewing machine or long arm stapler to put the paper together
*Scissors
*Paper corner rounder
*Glue Stick
*Any other stickers, ephemera, washi, journaling cards or stamps you’d like to use to jazz up your insert
STEP 2
After selecting the papers you’d like to use in your insert, it’s time to cut the pages. Choose what paper you’d like to use as your cover. You will need to cut this sheet slightly larger than the rest so that it covers all the other pages. Your cover sheet should be cut into an 8.25″ x 10.25″ rectangle. Cut the rest of your pages into 8″ x 10″ rectangles. Once all your pages are cut, you can use either a bone folder or if your paper cutter has scorer you can use that to score a line down the middle of your pages. Stack all the pages on top of one another and stitch them together.
Alternately, if you have a large stapler you can use that to put the pages all together. I chose to add a thick strip of washi to the binding of my insert since my stitching wasn’t really pretty…totally up to you.
STEP 3
Use a corner rounder to round the corners of you pages. This step is totally optional but I really like the way it makes them look. Another way to customize your pages at this point would be to add washi to the edge of all the pages!
STEP 4
Now that your insert is assembled…it’s time to dive in and have fun! Grab those stickers, stamps, washi rolls and journaling cards and get journaling! I’ve shown you a few pages from my insert to give you a few ideas of where to start. One of my favorite things to do is to stack some journaling cards and washi tape them so they can each flip up and give you lots more journaling areas. I used some tabs from the IF Genesis kit to indicate what each card was for. On another page I stamped out the lyrics of one of my favorite songs right now by Lauren Daigle (https://www.youtube.com/
I hope you’ve all enjoyed this tutorial! I can’t wait to see your handmade inserts! Have fun and praise God!
Love!
Looks beautiful! Where did you get your stamps? I could use some of those :)
I spy with my little eye… great tutorial Amanda!!
So beautiful and inspiring! Thank you for sharing!
LOVE this! Do you have (or could you point me to) a tutorial for making a fauxdori which holds 6 (if I counted correctly) notebooks like yours? As I recall, yours pictured here caught my eye in an earlier instagram post.
Thanks so much for sharing this idea!
Many blessings!
Hi Angie! This fauxdori was made by my set friend Gina from http://www.mamacakesmakings.etsy.com but I’m sure if you looked on pintrest you could find some tutorials
I’m going to make one of these today to use for my Wow God Gratitude Journal. Thanks for sharing!
