Let’s talk about redeeming marks! In today’s bible journaling process video I’m continuing to work through the Mark Maker devotional kit. Grab your bible, journaling supplies and coffee or tea as we explore the amazing promise of redemption and transformation through Christ!
As we begin this section we’re directed to Ephesians 1. Shanna asks what redeeming marks have been written on our testimony.
He [God] is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. Ephesians 1:7 (NLT)
Our Father, in His abundant kindness, has bought us back from death. He has freed us from the consequence of our sinful hearts. In Christ we truly have received that which we do not deserve! Shanna then asks us where has Jesus taken out his eraser and written a new story.
I looked to a lot of digital supplies to create today’s page. I was drawn to this image of a pencil eraser over a heart, much like how the Holy Spirit transforms our hearts to look like Jesus’. Because, praise be to Him, He does not leave us how He found us! Instead, He restores His very image in us. The old has gone and a new story is being written! What a treasure to have record of His faithfulness as we document those things He has rewritten on our hearts.
Of course, this transformation requires our participation. When we confess those dark areas of our heart He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). When we confess our struggle with comparison, we are forgiven and can turn to express a heart full of gratitude and worship. When we confess our bitterness of heart, we are forgiven and can look to others with compassion and extend forgiveness.
Have you handed those burdens over to Jesus? He’s there. As is the Holy Spirit, ready to erase anything in your heart that doesn’t look like Him. He’ll make new marks reflecting His holiness, patience, love, wisdom and kindness.
