Happy Monday! I’m sharing a new bible journaling process video using Tamara’s Arcilla’s latest Print & Pray Shop set called Jesus & Chill. In her printable Tamara confesses her love for television and wants to have the same heart for her bible. She wants to binge God’s promises the way she binges her favorite show. I recently watched the series “Making It” on NBC in two sittings. All that creativity plus Nick Offerman’s stoic beard and dry humor? Count me in! But oh how I wish I wanted to spend as many hours pouring over my bible. And whether you’re into TV or knitting or reading I think most of us have the same desire.
Each time I meet God in His word I remember how life-giving that time is. For this entry I’m using the new Illustrating Bible and journaling a prayer in Psalm 119:33-37. Verses thirty-six and thirty-seven say,
“Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.” (NIV)
Each time I sit on my sofa with my bible, notebook and coffee in hand I want Him to open my eyes to see wonderful things (Ps. 119:18) and give me understanding (Ps. 119:34).
What about you? What is your favorite way to binge on His word? Do you read whole books in just a couple sittings? Do you learn everything you can about the author, audience and historical context? Do you journal a passage multiple times wherever you can find a blank margin?
My prayer for us is that we seek Him daily, not only when we’re spiritually famished and at our wit’s end. Let’s stay rooted in Truth streaming His living and active word.
