Hi friends! This week I thought I would share a page I did in my Journaling Bible based on the message at church last Sunday. The story is in Mark 6:30-44: the very familiar story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. I’ve heard and read this story hundreds of times before, but this time it really hit home as our pastor used it to teach us that Jesus is sufficient – He is enough in every situation.
When the thousands of people that came to hear Jesus teach one day were hungry, the disciples wanted to send them away so they could get their own food, but Jesus had some lessons to teach them… and us! Jesus could have done a miracle and rained down manna like in the Old Testament; he could have had the disciples collect an amazing amount of money to go buy lots of food; or he could ask the disciples what they had (which wasn’t much!) They found a kid with his lunch that had five loaves of bread and two fishes. They gave it to Jesus, and he blessed it and broke it, and then used it to supply all the food that the people needed with lots of extras left over.
It made me think about what I have – what gifts, what talents, what abilities, what opportunities? He will do something extraordinary with what I have, if I give it to Him! He will bless it and break it and He will make it enough because HE is enough and His LOVE is enough for every need.
To start the page in my Bible, I used an old gift card to paint a very thin layer of acrylic paint over the whole page. I didn’t want to cover the words, and the paint is light enough that I can easily read the words through the paint.
Instead of drawing and coloring the flowers on the page, I cut them from a pad of paper and adhered them along the edge of the page. I didn’t glue them along the bottom, so that I can still lift the paper up and read the scripture underneath.
I used a variety of stickers and rub on letters to add the journaling to the page along with stamps from the new Illustrated Faith stamp set by Melissa Fischer. A few doodled lines and hearts and my page was done.
I’ve kept my Bible laying open to this page as a reminder all throughout the day to give what I have to him – whatever the task, whatever the opportunity, whatever the challenge – and Jesus makes it enough – enough strength, enough creativity, enough patience, enough hope, enough love – whatever the need, because HE is more than enough. His love is more than enough. I hope and pray that this is an encouragement to you like it has been to me!
