With so much going on in the world, it’s so easy for me to get down with worry. I knew that the best thing for me to do is to think of the things I’m grateful for. I instantly grabbed the Gratitude Documented Bible Journaling Kit and started looking through the paper pieces/ephemera. I first grabbed the biggest piece, the “today I am thankful for…” piece and quickly looked up that verse and highlighted the verse, Psalm 32:19. That’s what I love about these ephemera pieces… if you’re stuck on what to Bible journal, just grab one and head on over to the prompt on the back. What’s fun is that the things that I’m most grateful are my family, friends, and church… and loved that there were stickers for each of them included in the Bible journaling kit.
I grabbed the fun Gratitude Documented stamp set and knew that I wanted to play with that fun oval set with the textured stamp. I have to admit that I should have stopped at just using the oval stamps, but got carried away with the leaves and didn’t like the colors of the leaves so I toned it down by scraping some white and light pink paint over the top and now I love how it turned out. So, this is fun and super easy and did I mention fun? So, here’s what I’m going to say before we start… Never expect perfection when doing mixed media. You will never get a perfectly stamped image and that’s the fun of just letting it happen how it happens. Are you ready to get a little messy?
First, I like to do a quick scrape of white paint to the background, it’s kinda like prepping a page even though I don’t need to actually prep a page… plus, I had a paint blob on the page from another entry that I wanted to cover up.
STEP ONE:
using a paint brush or your fingers, brush on a layer of paint onto the solid background stamp.
STEP TWO:
randomly stamp it someone on your Bible… now remember, it won’t be perfect…. there might be splotches and missed parts.
STEP THREE:
repeat steps one and two around your page and let them dry before moving on to the next step
STEP FOUR:
use a stamp ink pad or ink brush marker (in a darker color than your base) to color the textured stamp
STEP FIVE:
stamp it over the tops of the background stamp… I like to offset it a bit just like some of the paper pieces show
After stamping around the page, I then added the ephemera and stickers… I did decided to stamp some of the leaves but it was too much to my liking so I took my white paint and paint card and started scraping paint to tone it down and then again with the light pink. Lastly, I added some washi tape around the page… because we all love washi tape!!!
After completing it, I then prayed for my family and friends who have been affected by all the mess going on in the world lately… I might have cried a few tears thinking of all that’s been going on, but oh so grateful for a sovereign God and knowing that this is not our home.
