Most of the time when I do my Bible Journaling it’s because I’m reading a verse that really speaks to me and I want to highlight it, or I’m meditating on a sermon and want to document my thoughts on it, or I’m journaling out a prayer. For those times I then go in search of supplies that I think might work, that match the theme of what I’m trying to say. But occasionally it’s the other way around. Sometimes I’ve been using a particular product for something else and it strikes me that it would work perfectly in my Bible…. somewhere! That’s what happened here today. I was making some cards with this stamp set from Studio Calico when the sentiment “you lift me up” reminded me of Psalm 121, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

Just perfect for this stamp set right? I don’t think I had any choice but to put the two together for this page I’m sharing today! You can watch the video to see how it all came about.

Thanks so much for sharing. Love it! What type of journaling Bible do you have? It is what I am looking for.

I use an ESV Single column journaling Bible. It’s currently sold out everywhere, but I believe we’re expecting a restock by the end of the month :-)

Just one question how did the back of the page look? Any heavy bleeding from the inks/watercolor? Thank you!

Yes unfortunately any time you use a wet medium there’s a good chance it’s going to bleed through onto the back of the page. I try to use the least amount of water possible (which is easy with these watercolour papers) but there’s always some that bleeds. I don’t really mind though to be honest. If I want to journal on the other side of the page I either use the colour that’s there and turn it into something different, or I use papers and stickers to put over the top to hide it. :-)

Great ideas. thank you! I’m still too afraid to do my illustrations in my journaling bible. Hope to give it a try this weekend.

I love these little stamps! I have a question though… What do you do if you want to journal a page that has ink bleed through on it? Paint it first?

Hi Natalie..where do you get your watercolour papers from? I clicked on the link at the bottom of your tutorial, which took me to Amazon but they are out of stock and they don’t know when/if they’ll be getting them back in. they didn’t look the same as yours either. Do you know if they’re available anywhere else? I’m in NZ..you’re in Oz? Lovely watching you create those pages..thanks so much for sharing. I just bought my journalling bible today…luckily a local Christian bookstore had quite a few to choose from!!

Also in regards to paint bleeding thru to the next page. Do you ever gesso the margin before painting it to prevent that? I have an idea that that would work..but as I haven’t done one yet I’m not certain! Wondered if you’d tried it?

Natalie the work you did with that page was awesome. I have gathered a lot of things yet I haven’t used them. You gave me some great ideas. What type of inks did you use? I also had thought about using gesso to cover up the bleed through, with just a light coat. Do you have any idea if that would work?
Thanks for your post and your suggestions.
