Merry & Bright: Celebrating the Advent of Christ and the hope and joy we have in His light!

Dear Reader, 

I’m imagining you settling into one of your favorite spaces; a warm drink, journal, and Bible within reach. Bonus: your toes are not cold. If this is your reality as you start this deck, wonderful! But even if it isn’t, I believe God will meet you as you pause to reflect on Him and the many gifts of His Advent season. 

As I’m sure you already know, the theme for this Advent deck is “Merry & Bright.” As we reflect on Christ’s coming, it’s a beautiful opportunity to celebrate Him and the hope and joy we have in His light! In organizing this, I loosely modeled the structure after the Advent candles and weeks of Advent. There are four overarching themes for the weeks ahead: Hope, Joy, Light, and Celebration. Within each week, I’ve selected a different aspect of the theme to explore each day. As an English teacher, I had fun with the Thesaurus, but the purpose is that within each week, you will have the opportunity to meditate on the infinite ways God reveals Himself to us–that in considering one facet of God, we are led to consider even more. I hope that you are inspired to go further and identify even more examples of each theme–both in your own life and in Biblical studies. 

We worship an endless God and I hope that your Advent season brings you to stillness in awe, leads you to dance with joy, and drives you to lead others in celebration!

As a final thought, if this is not a season of celebration or joy for you, I hope you feel the peace, compassion, and gentleness of our loving Father as you reach for Him.
