When I joined the Bible Journaling community, one of the first Bibles I saw was a momma using illustrations to write letters to her daughter. I thought it was the sweetest thing ever, took 50 million screen shots, and secretly vowed that if I ever had a daughter, I just HAD to do the same. When we found out we were pregnant months later, I was so excited to start writing letters to our sweet little bear, even though we didn’t know the gender yet! And my goodness, you can just imagine how excited I was when we found out our little bear was a girl!! While I’m sure I would’ve been just as excited for a boy, I was so excited to start writing and painting super girly, artsy letters to our little miss!! I wanted to take a fun twist on the Bible I had first seen, so when Shanna first sneaked a peek of the Praise book, I knew it was the perfect place to paint, scrap book, and write out letters to our little lady, Lucy.
I’m only a few spreads in, but my heart and goal behind writing these letters is for my daughter to know that I’ve been praying for her since the day we found out she existed and to hopefully know how dearly I long for her to know Jesus as her King, too. I’ve used the pages to write out silly updates on how big she is or to explain the significance and legacy behind her name. I’ve written out some of our most frequent prayers for her and here, I wrote out a Psalm of praise that I just loved from my daily reading this week.
In Psalm 103, David sings praises to God for His faithfulness and love towards Israel. I just love how beautifully and truthfully He paints the character of God. I want my girl to know this God, to know His steadfast love and mercy and forgiveness, and to marvel at the beauty of how He sustains us. I could seriously sit and read this Psalm over and over again because it makes my heart so excited to remember what an incredible love we are loved with.
It was so hard trying to squeeze every bit of the chapter into 2 little pages, so I picked out key parts of the verses that emphasized the character of God. I just loved verses 11-12 and didn’t want to shorten them, so I wrote them out on one of the clear page inserts with a Sharpie! Seriously friend, how beautiful is the imagery of God’s love being as great as the distance between heaven and earth and our sins being as far removed as the East is from the West?! Last time I checked, neither of those are measurable! What an incredible and gracious King we are so blessed to serve!
I’m so excited to keep filling this book with more letters, pictures, prayers, and promises of who God is throughout the next months and years to come as we pray fervently for our little Lucy bear to know and love Jesus personally and intimately on her own!
